a) how to form it
combine the auxiliary verb “avoir” or “être” in the present tense with the past participle of a verb
for example :
nous avons cuisiné une baguette
elles sont venues* dans la cuisine
* with the auxiliary “être« , past participles agree in gender and number with the subject

b) use
1. to express a completed action:
J’ai terminé (I’m done)
2. for emphatic expression :
Elle est allée sur la lune ! (She went to the Moon !)
3. translates the simple past in English :
Ils ont sculpté ce merveilleux diamant hier
(They carved this wonderful diamond yesterday)
4. translates the present perfect in English :
Ce rubis a eu un grand impact sur moi
(This ruby has had a great impact on me)
