Theory
COD : direct object pronouns
the direct object pronoun is used to avoid repetition
Je vois un robot ➔ Je le vois
example | |
me | tu me vois – you see me |
te | je te vois – I see you |
le la | je le vois/je la vois – I see him/her |
nous | tu nous vois – you see us |
vous | je vous vois – I see you |
les | je les vois – I see them |
exceptions
Watch out for questions :
tu aimes l’or ? ➔ oui, j’aime ça
tu connais l’or ? ➔ oui, je connais
COI : indirect object pronouns
the indirect objet pronoun replaces a noun of persons preceded by the preposition “à”
Je parle à Dr. Zorg ➔ Je lui parle
example | |
me | tu me parles – you talk to me |
te | je te parle – I talk to you |
lui | je lui parle – I talk to him/her |
nous | tu nous parles – you talk to us |
vous | je vous parle – I talk to you |
leur | je leur parle – I talk to them |
exceptions
Watch out for verbs like “penser + à” in which case a stressed pronoun is used instead
tu penses à Aline et à Gontrand ? ➔ oui, je pense à eux
tu penses à moi ? ➔ oui, je pense à toi
